Actually, any fantasy or period-inspired gown is a tricksy subject. Be it Goth, Faerie or Camelot, the sad fact is that most of the dresses designed for these look like costumes. And this is tacky.
*sigh*
Azrael's accompice did a Gothic wedding dress, available in black or white.

But in real life... it just looked like a costume.

A costume made with cheap satin.
I thought maybe it was just the way black heavy satin looked in the light...

but it wasn't.
If you google Gothic wedding you will see time and time again a bride dressed in something that she dug out of the back of the Drama wardrobe.
I believe Gothic is a style rather than a colour. Black, red and purple gowns are all well and dandy, but where is the delicate elegance of church architecture, sunset through stained glass, moonlight on roses? That to me is what gothic is.

You do realize the one you referred to as "cheap satin" is actually silk? Do you own or have seen her dresses up close?
ReplyDeleteOnly black and white? Hehe...you didn't see the dress she made for me in gorgeous peacock inspired colors
ReplyDeletewow, i own a number of pieces from AZAC, and all of them are amazingly well made, with great materials. i'm not sure you have seen any of these gowns in reality. you would most certainly change your mind if you did!
ReplyDeleteI agree there are no nice quality gothic style dresses.. especially in white/offwhite.
ReplyDeletemost DO look like well-done costumes. NOT luxurious.
Nor do they have good quality full length lolita, burlesque-inspired, or renaissance gowns.
sometimes I will come across one that MAY be ok--and usually it is Victorian.
This really stinks.
And I agree, the material above doesn't fit my palate. I want my dress to have shape and structure. It maybe okay for that time period, but not to todays beauty standards.
Can't they just make the same thing but in a different fabric? or... make a modern look alike. I don't want prehistoric fabrics.. luxury here, not cosplay. It's the design and the details that matter <3
